Sorbothane Insoles: How to Prevent Shock and Impact Foot Injuries

It is a widely held fact that runners experience a great deal of impact related injuries, but did you know that other activities cause impact and shock injuries as well? Walking, standing, aerobics, jumping, climbing, cycling...virtually every activity that you do results in impact somewhere on your body.

Impact injuries of the foot are especially troublesome because they are difficult to treat once they occur. Treatment often takes weeks or months, and there could be several flare ups before all is said and done. Therefore, it is best to prevent impact injuries rather than try to treat them after they have become obvious. Follow these tips to prevent impact and shock injuries of the foot:

  • Activity - Whenever you start a new activity, begin slowly. You may feel like you can continue, but you should pace yourself. Most impact injuries do not show up for days. If you introduce a new activity too quickly, you could end up paying dearly for it.
  • Footwear - Most injuries of the foot are caused by inadequate footwear. Always wear activity specific footwear. Wear runners when you are running and walking shoes when you are walking. These shoes are designed to absorb the shock of each activity they are specified for.
  • Insoles - Shock absorbing insoles such as Sorbothane flat comfort insoles are a great way to reduce the risk of shock related injuries. These insoles absorb more than 94% of the impact that would normally be absorbed by your feet. As you can imagine, this greatly reduces the chance for injury.

Impact and shock injuries are easily prevented. If you follow the above tips and wear shock absorbing insoles, you may never have to deal with heel or shin pain. In addition to wearing Sorbothane insoles while you are exercising, wear them in your everyday (orthopedic) shoes as well. This will keep your feet and legs pain free regardless of what your day has in store for you.
