Metatarsal pain is felt on the ball of the foot. This is where the metatarsals, long bones of the foot, converge and join in an intricate system of bone, joints and muscles on the way to the digits or toes. Physical abnormalities, stress injuries, an uneven gait, and even the wrong shoes can cause inflammation and pain at the head of the metatarsals otherwise called the ball of the foot.
