Foot Care: Shoe Selection is Vital for the Health of Your Feet

Improper footwear and ill fitting shoes are responsible for the majority of painful foot conditions. This means that most foot pain can be alleviated and avoided simply by purchasing a good pair of shoes. But if it's so simple, why do so many people still complain of foot pain? It all comes down to education. People do not know why their feet are tired and aching at the end of the day so they keep wearing the wrong shoes and fail to wear comfort dress insoles.

As mentioned before, poor shoe selection is responsible for the majority of painful foot conditions. Here are just a few of the problems caused by ill fitting shoes:

  • Bunions - 90% of bunions are caused by shoes that are too tight or too narrow at the toe.
  • Friction Injuries - Friction related injuries such as blisters, corns and calluses are almost always caused by shoes that are too tight.
  • Fallen Arches - Fallen arches can be caused by wearing shoes that lack proper arch support.
  • Overpronation - Overpronation is a condition that occurs when the arch falls completely. The ankle turns outward which puts weight on the inside edge of the foot rather than the outside.

Fortunately, all of these conditions can be prevented simply by purchasing proper foot wear. Make sure that your shoes fit and do not pinch your toes. Make sure that they offer the proper arch support. Dress shoes by far are the most uncomfortable and confining. Be sure to use comfort dress insoles whenever you have to wear dress shoes. High heels are especially hard on your feet. Always wear flats if you expect to spend a lot of time on your feet.

Pressure related injuries due to excessive standing and walking can also be prevented by wearing comfort dress insoles. Take the time to purchase the right equipment for your feet. Your feet will thank you for it.
