What you need to know about buying a Gel Insole

Whether you are climbing Everest or walking around the block, a gel insole can provide your feet with pain relief, shock absorption, and even greater stability. The insoles come in a variety of sizes to fit many types of shoes and in differing levels of cushioning for many different activities. There are insoles to sooth particular areas, for particular sports, or for overall support.

Selecting the right gel insoles can help prevent or treat injuries. When shopping for a gel insole, keep in mind any pain that you are experiencing and the type of shoe that you want the insole for. Many insoles can be switched from shoe to shoe if needed, but making sure you have an insert for the shoes you wear often or will be doing strenuous activity in is a good idea. Here are some types of gel insoles and what they are used for:

  • Heel Cups: These gel insoles can help relieve tendonitis, heel bursitis, and knee or back pain. They provide shock absorption for heel strikes.
  • 3/4 Length Gel Insoles: Great for metatarsal pain, these gel inserts also provide cushioning and support for the heel. They can also help prevent calluses from forming.
  • Full Length Gel Insoles: If you stand or walk a lot each day, a full length gel insert may be just what you're tired feet ordered. These insoles provide comfort for the heel, mid-sole, and the balls of the feet. Some provide more arch support for those who need this.
  • Ball of the Foot Gel Insert: These insoles are designed for metatarsal pain and protection for the balls of the feet. Some loop over a toe or are attached to the existing insole via an adhesive label.

You may also want to look for some of the following features with your gel insoles: antibacterial to prevent foot odor, washable, and a long wearing design and material. By using gel insoles, you can help protect and cushion your feet from pain and discomfort.
