Plantar fasciitis night socks, go a long way in relieving
pain
Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of heel
pain. Symptoms of this condition vary, but may include pain that's
worse when first getting up in the morning, pain that's noticeable
at the beginning of an activity but improves as the body warms up,
pain caused by prolonged standing and pain that worsens toward the
end of the day.
Inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thin layer of tissue that
supports the foot's arch, is the cause of pain. This inflammation
can be brought on by a variety of factors, including tightness of
the foot, improper sports training, stress on the arch, foot weakness
and ill-fitting shoes. Physical conditions that may lead to plantar
fasciitis include high arches and flat feet.
Treatment of plantar fasciitis includes icing, rest, evaluation
of footwear, changes to sports technique and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs, like ibuprofen, for pain.
Cortisone injections and surgery are not commonly used to treat
the condition but do have high success rates. A stretching and strengthening
program, night socks and orthotics also may be recommended.
Plantar fasciitis night splints, or night socks
Because plantar fasciitis pain tends to be worse upon waking, there
are a variety of products designed to treat the condition that are
worn overnight. These products include plantar fasciitis night splints,
also called night socks. Plantar fasciitis night socks are designed
to hold the foot and toes in a flexed position. This position helps
to stretch the plantar fascia and the Achilles tendon, which helps
to relieve pain. Research has shown plantar fasciitis night socks
do help to relieve pain, sometimes after only a few weeks of wear.
The padded support socks
are easily to put on and remove, and many use adjustable Velcro(r)
straps. Look for a product that's washable. Proper fit is determined
by shoe size.
