Ankle Support: Run a Mile In Someone Else's Shoes? Not With an
Ankle Injury
While the prevention of ankle injuries is nigh impossible, ankle
support or an ankle brace is an excellent way to protect the ankle
during the healing and restoration process or otherwise as a way
to aid weak or previously injured ankles so that they do not succumb
to the demands placed on them once again. Although their primary
function is that of support and compression, some makes of ankle
support will even retain heat. Doing so encourages blood flow and
thereby facilitates the healing process naturally and more quickly.
Types of Ankle Support
Ankle injuries are common, yet they vary greatly in severity and
can range from sprains (injuries to the ligaments) to more severe
and debilitating fractures. Ankle Supports are as prevalent as the
injuries they treat and there are braces available for use with
various types of injuries and at differing stages of the healing
process. Elastic supports offer only minimal compression (this reduces
movement, increases circulation and enables faster recovery) but
are relatively cheap, can be worn with shoes and are not as cumbersome
as other more bulky devices. At the other end of the scale, light-weight,
yet durable walkers can be used in place of heavy casts. Acute injuries,
or in such cases were swelling is still prevalent, can be treated
with an ankle brace immediately after the injury has taken place
or at a later date.
Naturally, there are different sizes and colours available, should
the more fashion-conscious among us have more in mind than simple
recuperation. Our product links will direct you to a diaspora of
ankle support items.
