Callus Cushion. It's Like A Cushion... For Calluses
A callus is, by definition,
a localized thickening of the horny layer of
skin. Typically, they are brought about as a direct result of
a repetitive
action such as friction (that is to say, repetitive rubbing) for
example.
Hyperkeratosis, what a callus is otherwise known as, is more common
in women
than men. A direct consequence, more often than not, of ill-fitting
shoes
such as high heels. Treatment of calluses is neither a difficult
nor
complicated process, however as with any treatment, caution is advised.
Cutting or trimming calluses with a knife is not a good idea. Not
only is it
dangerous but it could worsen the condition. Instead, a callus cushion
or
medicated pad should be applied to the affected area.
Callus cushions are applied to the ball of the foot and relieve
pain and
discomfort by cushioning the foot (and the calluses, of course)
with every
step you take. Composed of silicon or gel polymers, callus cushions
come in
a variety of sizes and designs. From U-shaped self-adhesive pads
to reusable
gel cushions that once washed and air cooled, reactivate their own
adhesive.
Priced under $10, callus pads and cushions are a simple, effective
way to
obtain relief from nasty callus pain.
Felt callus pads are also available, and provide a suitable alternative
for
those people who don't like the feel of synthetics like latex. Dr
Scholl's,
a foot care brand that offers virtually every product you could
need for
your feet, has among other things, cushlin gel callus cushions for
all-day
pain relief. Composed of patented Cushlin polymer, this callis cushion
moulds to the shape of your foot and stays put without the need
for any
adhesive or residue.
Pain, Pain Go Away. Don't Come Back Another Day.
After pain relief, the next step is of course to remove the callus
altogether, and this can be done through the application of callus
ointment.
What this does is soften and smooth the thick callused skin, exfoliating
and
moisturizing as it does so. For calluses on your toes, toe covers
with
silicone gel padding can be used to cover the forefoot, providing
relief to
the entire region. Dr Scholl's also has a product for this particular
application: an all-in-one callus remover that makes use of salicylic
acid
to remove calluses while providing effective pain relief.
