A heel cushion may be recommended for pain relief from
plantar fasciitis
If you have plantar fasciitis, your physician may recommend
the use of a heel cushion. A heel cushion is a type of foot
orthotics that can help relieve pain associated with plantar
fasciitis and other foot conditions.
What is a heel cushion?
For people with foot pain, a heel cushion, or heel insert, a type
of foot insole,
is designed to do the following:
- provide shock absorption and improve weight distribution
- relieve pressure in the inflamed heel area
- How do I use a heel cushion?
Heel inserts are designed to be easily slipped into your shoes.
The cushions should be placed on top of the shoes' insoles. If you
have questions, ask your physician or podiatrist to show you how
to properly place the heel cushion in your footwear.
When should I wear the heel cushion?
You should wear the heel cushion whenever you're wearing shoes,
or as recommended by your physician. To relieve the pain of plantar
fasciitis, physicians often recommend stretching exercises. It's
a good idea to wear the heel cushions when you're performing these
exercises, too.
What should I look for when buying a cushion for my heel?
Heel cushions are available in a variety of sizes and materials,
so it's best to ask your doctor about the type of heel cushion to
use for your condition.
How do I care for the heel cushions?
Heel inserts are easy to care for. Just remove them from your shoes
and hand wash. Let the cushions dry naturally.
