These common causes of Knee Pain or discomfort may highly
surprise you
Knee Pain typically comes as a result of overuse or inactivity,
but is not restricted to these two categories. Various daily activities
such as moderate exercise and even walking can result in knee pain.
Often times overweight individuals experience knee pain because
of the extra strain exerted on their lower bodies.
The many manifestations of knee pain include arthritis and the
host of associated connective tissue disorders, bursitis or inflammation,
tendonitis or a pain in the front portion of your knee, to the more
serious causes of knee pain like a baker's cyst or dislocation.
Knee pain can be rectified by a number of means, but should always
be treated by a physician and never self-diagnosed. For those with
moderate knee pain who are stubborn and or unable to go to the doctors'
office, there are a few simple things that can be done in the home
that may help with knee pain management. Rest and relaxation are
the two most essential and effective techniques in managing persistent
knee discomfort. Application of ice to the affected areas may also
assist with the reduction of swelling often time associated with
knee pain or discomfort. Medical professionals advise that the gentle
compression of the area with an ace bandage or gauze strap can also
reduce swelling and provide support. Couple the above methods listed
above with ibuprofen and prop the knee up with a pillow and most
mild knee pain will slowly wane.
But some knee discomfort should not be treated at home and must
be seen by a physician. It is time to go to the doctor when you
can not walk on the affected knee, or when the pain in your knee
is so severe that it buckles. And when your knee is misshapen or
deformed, it may be time to put the Advil away and go see the doctor.
