Gosh does this Ingrown Toenail hurt! So what can you do
about this painful condition
Ingrown Toenails are uncomfortable. No, actually, they hurt
and they hurt pretty badly. These ingrown nails are one of the more
common foot ailments treated by podiatrists and come in a few splendid
varieties for your enjoyment. Ingrown toenails come with and without
infection, some come with swelling and other with redness, some
with discharge, and others just look like they hurt but don't.
But where do these ingrown toenails come from? How do they happen?
And why do some people seem to be perpetually plagued by ingrown
nails? The long and short of it is that the ingrown toenail results
from the abnormal growth of the nail and a subsequent infringement
on the skin along the nail bed.
Symptoms associated with the ingrown nail are relatively uniform
and range from pain along the margins of the nail and sensitivity
to swelling and discharge tinted with blood. These painful ingrown
nails result from the improper manicuring of the nails, poorly fitting
shoes, tight socks, nail plate trauma, and the all inclusive toenail
abnormalities and deformities.
So what can you do about these painful and aggravating ingrown
toenails? To avoid future complications it is suggested that the
toenail be cut straight across, not rounded, but straight. Avoid
wearing tight socks and shoes and if your feet are uncomfortable
or in pain, try soaking them a few times a day in a basin of warm
water. But despite your best efforts sometimes the ingrown nail
is absolutely unavoidable and in all cases these ingrown nails require
immediate medical attention.
