A Swollen Ankle isn't difficult to get, but ain't too easy
to relieve
You may have experienced the pain of a swollen ankle before,
and the cause of this problem could have been the result of a foot
condition, sports injury, exercising, falling the wrong way, twisting
your foot or perhaps the outcome of a car accident. Not every
swollen ankle is cause for you to be concerned, but it is a condition
that should never be taken lightly. If you are not experiencing
excruciating pain and the swelling seems to be going down, treat
your swollen ankle to the best of your ability.
Monitor Your Swollen Ankle
If you are experiencing a swollen ankle you should keep a close
eye on your condition. Apply ice for only 15 to 20 minutes every
hour, and monitor the swelling. If you begin to notice bruising,
extreme tenderness or pain, and can not stand up, you should seek
the attention of a health care provider immediately. The chances
are that your swollen ankle is much more than a simple sprain; it
could very well be the result of a broken bone, or a torn muscle
or ligament.
Treat Your Swollen Ankle effectively
Regardless if your swollen ankle turns out to be a simple sprain
or a broken bone, you will want to treat it effectively and properly.
Keep the weight off of your swelled ankle, by using crutches, and
keeping it elevated when sitting down. If the area is covered by
a cast or splint, make sure you do not get these material wet. Follow
all instructions given to you by your doctor or orthopedic specialist.
If you fail to treat your swollen ankle effectively, you may find
that your condition could become worse, and your ankle may fail
to heal to its full potential. Therefore, treat your swollen ankle
like royalty and don't overdo it.
