Corns

Corns, one of the most common and painful foot conditions

Corns are a very common foot condition that is irritating and sore to the sufferer who experiences them. They are usually present on or near the toes, and are caused by frequently wearing tight shoes, or from deformities of the toes (hammer toes) that cause more pressure to be added on specific regions of the skin when shoes are worn. Corns, like calluses, are caused by intense pressure, which causes the effected skin to protect itself by becoming raised or tough. However, the major difference between a corn and a callus is that a corn is often much more painful.

What to do about Corns

If you discover that you have a painful, hard knob-like growth on or around your toes that is either pink or gold in color, you have a corn. There are different methods you can use to rid your feet of corns, but it is always a wise decision to visit your doctor first before resulting to your own methods. He or she may prescribe to you certain treatment, or they might even refer you to a podiatrist, which is a specialist who diagnoses, treats and prevents foot diseases. The podiatrist may remove the corns for you, or give you treatment for you to apply yourself.

Can Corns come back after removal?

Corns can return after they have been removed, and that is why it is essential that you take every measure involved in preventing their return. You can do this by wearing proper shoes that have insoles, which will provide your feet will support and balance, and will help to take the pressure off of a single area like your toes. You should also bathe and pamper your feet regularly, so that they can relax and will remain softer. In addition, it is also a good idea to walk around barefoot as much as you can, in order for your feet to breathe. Keep corns off of your toes, by respecting and not neglecting your feet.
