Ankle Exercises

Ankle Exercises help speed up the healing process after an injury has been sustained by the ankle

Ankle exercises for injuries to the joint help improve the balance and speed up the healing process. If you have what is known as “weak ankles”, you will need to do ankle exercises to help strengthen the joint. Without the use of your ankles you cannot walk or stand for any length of time and ankle exercises are of great benefit.

Ankle exercises help with Achilles Tendonitis by stretching the Achilles tendon to reduce pain and swelling. Ankle exercises are also necessary when dealing with a sprained ankle. One such ankle exercise is to press you foot downward as if you were pressing on the gas pedal of your vehicle and then pull your foot up towards you. Another ankle exercise is to move your foot from side to side in a sweeping motion.

The purpose of doing ankle exercises is to reduce pain and swelling and to be able to regain full motion of your ankle when the injury heals. Ankle exercises strengthen your ankle so as to prevent injuries from easily recurring as soon as you resume normal activity.

You do not need specialized equipment to do ankle exercises at home. If you have any can food in your cupboard, you can do ankle exercises just as the pros do, using expensive equipment. Take a can of milk or green peas, for example, and place it in a plastic grocery bag. Put your foot through the handles and pull forward so that your ankle moves upward. You can do this simple ankle exercise while you are watching TV or knitting a sweater.
